Allendale offers both big and small business. The Allendale Shopping Plaza is a one-stop shop for locals. On November 8, 1894 Allendale was formed, along with 25 other New Jersey boroughs, an act known as “Boroughitis.” William C. Allen, a surveyor for the Erie Railroad was who the town was named after. The town gained a bit of notoriety when baseball legend Babe Ruth would frequently vacation at the Allendale Hotel.
Allendale is home to the “Celery Farm,” a nature preserve that is home to hundreds of animals including fox, rabbits, deer, frogs, turtles, rodents, and exotic birds. Many rare brids have been seen here, including a bald eagle, and a pileated woodpecker. It is open to the public for nature walks and bird-watching.
